Akhmetzhan Yessimov: EXPO has justified our expectations

Speaking at the EXPO-2017 Exhibition three-millionth visitor honoring ceremony, Astana EXPO-2017 National Company Chairman of Board Mr. Akhmetzhan Yessimov mentioned that the day before Head of State had highly praised hosting of the Exhibition.

“We have fulfilled our forecast figures. It may be said that EXPO has justified our expectations. This was soundly said by our President in his recent interview,” marked Mr. Yessimov.

The international project CEO stressed that the Exhibition had a ‘mighty multiplicative effect on the economy of Kazakhstan’.

Recently, there has been an application of a group of businessmen concerning prolongation of EXPO operation. It is also understandable as one of the EXPO purposes was development of tourism in our country whereas the share of this sector in the economy of our country still remains very small. But the regulations exist at the International Exhibition Bureau: three months. There are budgets of foreign participant countries calculated just for these three months. Therefore, prolongationisimpossible. In this connection, I would like to inform the potential visitors through mass media that first of all they should try to see the international pavilions as on September 10 they will stop operation,” said Akhmetzhan Yessimov.

EXPO-2017 will offer the national business possibilities to gain even after the official closure.

“Recently, President of the country has considered and adopted the concept of the Exhibition use after its closure. Some of the EXPO facilities will remain as heritage and, after a short idle period for prophylactic activities they will be put into operation again as tourist attractions. Firstly, it concerns the main facility: Nur Alem Pavilion. Lately, it has been visited by over a million people and I think it will be in tourist demand in the future. A new tourist attraction means a new gravity point for tourists. By the way, the Eiffel’s Tower in Paris is annually visited by seven million people,” marked Akhmetzhan Yessimov.

“EXPO has given good momentum to tourism development. Well, we will tell about the results of the Exhibition operation in more details after closure thereof. We have already entered the ‘final straight’ – only 16 days are left,” marked Akhmetzhan Yessimov.
